Andy Murray beats Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon

Andy Murray won his first Wimbledon title and ended Britain's 77-year wait for a men's champion with a clinical victory over world number one Novak Djokovic.

The Scot, 26, converted his fourth championship point in a dramatic final game to win 6-4 7-5 6-4 and claim his second major title.

In an atmosphere reminiscent of his Olympic final win last summer, Murray was willed on by the majority of the 15,000 spectators on Centre Court, thousands watching on the nearby big screen and millions more around the country.

The final game was a battle in itself, with Murray seeing three match points slip by from 40-0 and fending off three Djokovic break points with some fearless hitting, before the Serb netted a backhand to end the contest.

After a gruelling three hours and 10 minutes in searing temperatures, Murray had finally followed in the footsteps of Fred Perry's 1936 win at the All England Club.

The ole Hooter will help you get into your opponent's head but the view from the Hoo is about Uncle Jed

The ole Hooter will help you get into your opponent’s head

But the view from the Hoo

Is about uncle Jed

That’s right April 2nd is Buddy Ebsen’s birthday.  He would have been 105 today but he passed away in 2003.  He played uncle Jed on the Beverly Hillbillies.  But here is a fun fact. He was cast as the tin man in the Wizard of Oz, but became allergic to the paint and had to give up the role.  You will have as much room as the Clampett’s in their new mansion her today.  Just one 3.5 softcourt match so hop in the truck and “git” down here.

You won’t need “black gold” to get a new racquet here at the Hoo.  Our prices are rock bottom.  Look around and find a price and we “will beat your deal regardless” wait that is not uncle Jed that is Jim Skinner.  Anyway don’t look out of place like the hillbillies in L.A. get a brand new Wilson or Head tennis racquet today.  We have demos to try out just waiting on you.

The Men’s and ladies tennis clinics are in full swing, get full swing, anyway Monday nights at 6:30.  We will meet just below the “cement pond” We would love to know you are coming so RSVP.  All levels are invited.

You may live with your crazy mother in law (Granny) and your half witted nephew (Jethro) but the National Family Tennis Championships is all about family. The event will be here at the Hoo  April 13th and 14th.   A super fun doubles tournament featuring doubles events: father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, mother/daughter, husband/wife and brother/sister.  To register go to www.familytennis.com  and join the fun.

If you don’t want your kids to turn out  like Jethro get them in to tennis. Jr. Tennis clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays here at the Hoo.  Kids ages 5-9 play at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up play at 4:30-5:30.  Also the Big Jr. Tennis Camp Extravaganza is May 28th-31st 1:00-4:00 for kids ages 5-15 all levels.  You don’t want to miss this.  People are already signing up and space is limited.

Also something new! Camp HCC Don’t send your kid to daycare come to camp.  Kids play tennis, golf, swim, fish, do crafts.  What more could you want?  The camp is 8:00 am-4:00 pm.  Lunch is included.  Three camp dates are June 4th-7th, July 9th-12th , Aug 6th-9th.  Cost is $225 for members (second child $200 each additional child is $175) non-members pay $300.  Space will be limited so sign up fast as “Ellie Mae”.  To register e-mail Jaime jfields@hoovercc.com

There is a State 10 and under training camp this Saturday 9:00-3:00.  So the courts will be crowded.  There is room but as always IIDCAFO! 978-0375

The ole Hooter will help you losing abstain, but the view from the Hoo is heading for the mountains.

The ole Hooter will help you from losing abstain

But the view from the Hoo

Is heading for the mountain

That’s right all you beer drinkers, August Anheuser Busch Jr. the beer baron was born on this day in 1899.  His dad Adolphus Busch married Eberhard Anheuser, whose father open the brewery in St. Louis  right after the Civil War.  The son took over and the rest is history.  So don’t head for the mountain head for the courts right here at the Hoo.  There is a 4.0 match this morning so that means four courts will be taken up.  So grab some Buds, er I mean tennis balls and get down here.

This is one of those rare Thursday night that men do not play at home.  Even though it is Spring Break they play at Vestavia.  So plenty of courts tonight.  So Men even though we don’t have home field advantage we are expecting big things tonight.  We need you to be king of the courts and not king of beers tonight.

If you got the time we got the beer, er I mean string.  This is the last week for a “jefferupper”.  If you want your opponents to head for the mountain get a your racquet fixed up.  A “jefferupper” is a new string job, a new grip, a new over grip, and a vibration dampner  for 10% off.  Hey Mabel that is better than a Black Label.

The National Family Tennis Championships is coming up April 13th and 14th here at the Hoo.  “It doesn’t get any better than this”.  You and your family playing tennis together.  The doubles tournament has these divisions: father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, mother/daughter, husband/wife and brother/sister.  Go to www.familytennis.com to register.  This tournament is always a fun event and winners go to a super regional playoff with a chance to go to National Championship in New York during the US Open.  This is more fun than Old Milwaukee.

If you want your kids to stay away from beer get them on the courts.  They will keep busy and have to be in shape.  So strike a blow for Temperance and start your child in tennis.  Jr. Tennis clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up playing at 4:30-5:30.  Also the Big, the famous, the stupendous Jr. Tennis Camp Extravaganza will be May 28th-31st 1:00-4;00.  You don’t want to miss this baby.  And this is not like light beer that is less filling this baby always fill up fast so e-mail me now and get your kids in.

Also the Hoo will do something new!  Camp HCC week long camp during the summer where your child can learn tennis, learn golf, swim and do crafts right here at the Hoo.  Don’t send your kid to day care, send them to Boo at the Hoo. It is more fun and the learn lifetime skills.  Weeks are June 4th-7th, July 9th-12th and August 6th-9th.  Drop your child off and bring a friend.  E-mail Jaime in the office jfields@hoovercc.com and make this be a summer to remember.

No big event this weekend.  This is Easter weekend and that means good weather.  So stay away from the “high life” and head for the court.

A lesson with the ole Hooter will usually do the trick but the view from the Hoo is about Patrick

A lesson with the ole Hooter will usually do the trick

But the view from the Hoo

Is about Patrick

On this day in history the famous Patrick Henry said the immortal words, “give me liberty or give me death”.  One of our Founding Fathers of the country spoke out against the Stamp Act of 1765.  You will be saying “give me a court of give me death” today.  We have a double league match day.  The 5.0 team has a soft court match and the 4.5 LITL doubles only league one as well.  That is 7 courts so that doesn’t leave many to play on.  So IIDCAFO!  Call you if you plan to just show up.  We will be busy all day today.  This afternoon from 3:00-5:30 someone has rented the courts for a match.  So check before you just show up.  (978-0375).

If you want to revolutionize your game (get it, revolution like the American Revolution) anyway get a “jefferupper”.  This is the last week to save on this revolutionary special, a string job, a new grip, an overgrip, and a vibration dampner all for 10% off.  King George himself could not turn that down.  So get your racquet ready for Spring, if Spring will ever come, bring down to ole Jeff and let him do a “fix er upper”.

You won’t need independence from your family if you play in the National Family Tennis Championships April 13th and 14th here at the Hoo.  Family divisions are: father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, mother/daughter , husband/wife and brother/sister.  To register go to www.familytennis.com  winner of this event go to a super regional in Mobile this summer with those winner going to New York during the US Open.

Your may want to have a revolution at home and throw your kids out of the house.  Jr. tennis clinics are the place to be.  Jr. Tennis clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays here at the Hoo, with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up playing at 4;30-5:30.  Also the Big Jr. Tennis Camp Extravaganza is May 28th-31st 1:00-4:00.  Kids ages 5-15 all levels.  Sign up early because spots go fast.  Also this summer look for Camp HCC.  Tennis, Golf, swimming, crafts all day long at the Hood.  Horton will hear about that.

No big event this weekend.  So make it your constitution to get down here and play.  The weather is always better after Easter

The ole Hooter will help you with your swing but the view from the Hoo is about the King

The ole Hooter will help you with your swing

But the view from the Hoo

Is all about the King

Not LeBron James, but Elvis Presley.  He was not born on this date but in 1958 he joined the Army.  How many rock stars can say that?  Can you see Mick Jager on the front lines looking for Satisfaction?  Or John Lennon imagining that he had a gun?  Not only was Elvis “The King’  he was also the man.  If you stepped on his blue suede shoes he was liable to “be cruel”.  Anyway, we have just one court taken up with a make-up match.  So you will not have to mess with any “hard headed women” today because there are plenty of courts.

“Love your family tender” by playing in the National Family Tennis Championships April 13th and 14th here at the Hoo.  We will have family doubles divisions: father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, mother/daughter, husband/wife and brother/sister.  To register go to www.familytennis.com  and have fun with the family.  Winners go on to a Super regional in Mobile, with the winners there going to New York during the US Open.

This is the last week to get a “jefferupper”.  This great deal will get you “all shook up”.  A new string job, a new grip, a new overgrip and a vibration dampner all for 10% off.  You will be “nothing but a hound dog” crying all the time if you miss this.  Also a new pair of Adidas Barricade team 2 ladies tennis shoes in yellow for just $59.99.  I could be put in the “jail house and rocked” for selling shoes that cheap.  And new Wilson and Head racquets with prices as obscene as a Elvis hip thrust.

If you are “lonesome tonight” we have adult tennis clinics on Monday evenings.  Men and women’s clinics are 6:30  Monday nights.  The men began last night and the women start next Monday night April 1st.  And this is no joke.  However if you tell me you are coming that is a commitment.  You can’t say you are coming and not show.  These pros need to be paid.  So you will be charged if you don’t show.

If your child is “the devil in disguise” and you want to “return them to sender” wait get them involved in tennis and they will become angels.  Tennis will save your soul.  They get exercise, they get out of the house, they learn a skill, they get mad at their opponent and then at home they are great.  So Jr. Tennis Clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3;30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up playing at 4:30-5:30.  And the big Jr. Tennis Camp Extravaganza will be May 28th-31st 1:00-4:00 ages 5-15 all levels.  This camp is the bomb so sign up early.

No big event this weekend! So let’s have a “little less conversation and a little more tennis”.    Have a great Easter!

With tennid pros the ole Hooter will help you the most but the view from the Hoo is we are keeping it Close

With tennis pros the ole Hooter will help you

the most

But the view from the Hoo

Is we are keeping it Close

Glenn Close that is, the famous actress turns 66 today.  One of my all time favorite leading ladies.  She did a lot in thwarting extra martial affairs in her role in “Fatal Attraction”.  This is a good day to have a fatal attraction to tennis.  No matches this morning so room to get out here and play.  Even though we had a “little Chill” last night (get it Big Chill, little chill) anyway it is only “Natural” that you would want to play.  But when you do play, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR A COURT!  You cannot just walk on to a court anytime.  You must go through the pro shop and sign in.  And register any guests you have.  Our crack staff will monitor things but it is your responsibility to sign in or heads will roll.  So our new motto, “ it is a sin to not sign in” goes into effect.

Play today because tonight there is a Men’s league match here at the Hoo that takes up 5 courts.  So if you were planning on meeting some here tonight it would be a “Dangerous Liaison” because you would have to fight for a court.  And next Monday night (25th) is the Men’s tennis clinic at 6:30.  Let me know if you will be here.

The National Family Tennis Championships is right around the corner.  April 13th and 14th play doubles with your kin.  It is a doubles tournament with family divisions.  Father/son, Mother/daughter, husband/wife, and brother/sister.  Join in the fun and go to www.familytennis.com  to register.  Winners go on to a super regional and if you win there on to a National Championship in New York during the US Open. That would be more fun than 101 Dalmatians.

If your racquet is about to suffer “Damages” because of poor performance, bring to Jeff for a “Jefferupper”.  Get a new string job, new grip, new over grip and a vibration dampner all for 10% off.  This Jeffer Offer won’t last long cash it in.  Also while you racquet is getting tuned up try one of new demo racquets.  We have Wilson’s new SET (spin effect technology and Head’s new “graphene”  so come try them out.  They will help you have a “reversal of fortunes” with your tennis game.

If you don’t want your kids hanging out with Cruella de Vil stealing puppies get them off the streets and on to the court.  Jr. Tennis Clinics are the place to be.  Clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up play 4:30-5:30.  We have Jr. Team Tennis and lots of camps and tournaments.  Our Famous Big Summer Jr. tennis Camp will be May 28th-31st 1:00-4:00 so make sure your child is signed up.  There will be limited space. Don’t let your child become “plain and tall”, like Sarah, teach them a skill.  Tennis is the sport of a lifetime.

No big event this weekend so unless you fly on “Air Force One” or there is a “Mars Attack” get down here and play there will be plenty of room and no “Jagged edges”.

The ole Hooter in tennis will help you play hard, but the view from the Hoo is about Die Hard

The ole Hooter in tennis will help you play hard

But the view from the Hoo

Is about Die Hard

That’s right sports fans it is Bruce Willis’s birthday today and he is the same age as me.  Born in 1955 ole Bruce turns 58.  How many of ya’ll remember Bruce from “moonlighting”?  Well you won’t have to moonlight around here to play tennis this week.  With have our people on Spring Break we have been at half speed here.  But there is a match today.  A doubles only match so just three courts taken.  We got room for you and “12 Monkeys”.

The Men’s Tennis Clinic will start next Monday at 6:30.  So guys we have got to stay focused.  The season is upon us we lost our first match but we can still win the national Championship if we right the ship.  I know that sounds like “Pulp Fiction”, but we can still do it.  I still need players this Thursday and every Thursday for that matter.

You will not need a “sixth sense” to figure out the National Family Tennis Challenge.  The tournament will be April 13th and 14th.  Play doubles with family members right here at the Hoo and go places if you win.  We will have Father/son, mother/daughter, husband/wife and brother/sister divisions.  To register go to www.familytennis.com

Your tennis strings are not “unbreakable” so that is why we need Jeff.  Get him to give you a “Jefferupper”.  A new string job, new grip and a overgrip and a vibration dampner for 10% off.  You can’t beat that deal with a stick.  And right now over Spring Break is a great time to do it.  Just drop it off here before you leave and it will be ready when you return.  The your opponents will Die Hard with a vengeance.

You certainly don’t want your kids to turn out like those people in the “Fifth Element”, they we weird.  So away fro the TV and on the court.  Fight Obesity right here at the Hoo.  Jr. Tennis Clinics are the way to fight back.  Clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up playing 4:30-5:30.

No big event this weekend so the courts will be wide open.  You will be able to play on the “whole nine yards” of this place.  So get to work so you will be ready when everybody returns from Spring Break.

The ole Hooter will help you win the fray, but the view from the Hoo is OK

The ole Hooter will help you win the fray

But the view from the Hoo

Is OK

No, I don’t mean Oklahoma.  Today is Wyatt Earp’s Birthday.  He became famous for winning the O.K. Corral shootout.  He earned his reputation as the Old West’s “toughest and deadliest” gunman of his day.   But today you can mosey on down here shoot tennis balls anywhere because there is no match this morning.  So we say it is OK to play.

I know it is Spring Break somewhere so some people have gotten out of “Dodge” but men you still need to practice.  We looked like the cowboys that got shot at the Tombstone.  So get out here and practice.  We will have a Men’s Tennis Clinic Monday nights at 6:30 starting next Monday night Mar. 25th.  But we need to know who will be there.

Don’t forget the “Jefferupper”!  You are going to be out of town, so leave your racquet with jeff and he will get it primed and ready to go.  Just like cleaning your six gun before the big shootout.  Get a new string Job, a new grip and a new overgrip fro 10% off.  You won’t have to bring your brothers (Virgil and Morgan) like Wyatt did to win the match. A ‘Jefferupper” will do the trick.  And while you racquet is in the shop try a new Wilson or Head demo.  Stay on the cutting edge of technology.

Ole Wyatt got the family involved so you can to in the National Family Tennis Championships Apr. 13th and 14th here at the Hoo.  Come play in one of the family divisions: Father/son, Mother/daughter, husband/wife, brother /sister.  The winners of our tournament go on to a super regional in Mobile and then on the National Championship in New York during the US Open.  Go to www.familytennis.com  to register.

Speaking of New York, get here one way or another.  We are trying to see who would be interested in going to the US Open Labor day weekend.  Let me know if you are interested.

You don’t want your kids to become outlaws.  You don’t want Wyatt and Doc Holliday going around shooting at them do you?  So Jr. Tennis Clinics are the place to have your kids Tuesdays and Thursdays afternoons.  Kids ages 5-9 play at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up play at 4:30-5:30.  Jr. Team tennis is alive and well also.

No big event this weekend.  So don’t be going around looking for some vendetta against  worthless cowboys.  Shoot some tennis balls here at the Hoo.

The ole Hooter will bring your tennis grade to an A from a F, but the view from the Hoo is abotu the IMF

The ole Hooter will bring your tennis grade to an A from a F

But the view form the Hoo

Is about the IMF

Who remembers the IMF?  Today is Peter Graves birthday and he was Jim Phelps, the leader of a team of government agents know as the Impossible Mission Force (IMF).  We need him today to help solve the mystery of who has Spring Break when and where.  Today is the beginning of someone’s Spring Break so there are no softcourt matches all week.  However, there will be other matches this week.  So watch your Hoot daily.  There is no match today.  So your mission “should you decide to accept” is to play tennis everyday.

The New Men’s USTA 3.5 team did not fare as well as the IMF team in there first outing.  They may need some secret agents to help out.  But we will begin to practice on Monday nights at 6:30.  Since this is somebodies Spring break we start the clinic next week the 25th.  So all potential league players can come.  As you know we have two teams.  A USTA team and a Interclub team.  Everybody practices on Monday night and everybody plays Thursday night.  So let me know who can practice and who can play.

The next mission is to play in the National Family Tennis Tournament here at the Hoo April 13th and 14th.  We will have Father/son, Mother/Daughter, Husband/wife and brother/sister divisions.  It will be a lot of fun and the winners go one to a sectional  playoff and event to a national playoff in New York and the same time as the Us Open.  To register go to www.familytennis.com

It might be impossible but we are trying to see who would like to go the US Open during the Labor Day weekend.  There are lots of dangers involved, but let me know who would be interested and we will try.

The IMF worked covert missions to overthrow dictators and crime lords, so your covert mission is to get your kids playing tennis.  Here is the plan meet at the Hoo on Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing at 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up playing at 4:30-5:30.  No racquet required and this is not top secret they can even bring a friend.

No big event this weekend, because we think we discovered people will be out of town for Spring Break.  So if you have been left in town sneak down here and play some tennis.  And as always if any of your team is caught the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence.  This Hoot will self destruct in five seconds.  Good Luck Jim.

The ole Hooter will teach you how to score above the view from the Hoo is all about love

The ole Hooter will teach you how to score above

But the view from the Hoo

Is all about Love

Mike Love that is, who remembers him?  The lead singer for the Beach Boys turns 72 today.  How does that make you feel rock and rollers?  He is probably doing a concert at the nursing home this weekend.  He probably can’t drive his little deuce coupe around because they took his driver license away.  Anyway no driving here today we have a double league match.  We have a 2.5 softcourt league match94 courts) and a 3.0 USTA match (5 courts).  Josh and I on two courts that leaves none except one hard court.  So there will be no “round, round getting around” here today until noon.  The good news is the softcourt match starts at 8:30 and the USTA match starts at 9:30.

“Wouldn’t it be nice” to go to New York at Labor Day and watch the US Open?  Let me know if you want to go!  I am not sure I can pull this off but let me know who is interested.  This is not a commitment just to see would like to go and I will work on the pricing.

“Help Me Rhonda”, the National Family Doubles Championship is back.  The Doubles extravaganza includes: Father/Son, Mother/daughter, Husband/wife and brother/sister.  We will run the vent April 13th here at the Hoo.  This fun event leads all the way to the US Open.  If you win this event you got to Mobile for the Sectional Playoff and then on to the national Championship in New York. So get your family ready.

I just got some “good vibrations”!  One of our members got a “Jefferupper” and it turned her game around.  She won a big match all because of Jeff.  If you have not gotten your jefferupper you might be losing for no reason.  And for the rest of the month I will throw in a vibration dampener to stop your vibrations in memory of the beach Boys.  So a new string job, a grip an overgrip and a vibration dampener all with 10%off.  That is more fun than a “Surfin Safari”.

If you don’t want your child to be a surfer dude, then the tennis court is the place to be.  Don’t let them go off to Surf City, but down to the Hoo.  Jr. Tennis Clinics are Tuesdays and Thursdays with kids ages 5-9 playing from 3:30-4:30 and kids ages 10 and up play at 4:30-5:30.  We are playing Jr. team Tennis on Friday afternoons as well.

I not only don’t wish but am glad that ya’ll are not California girls.  Because Alabama (and Auburn) girls are the best.  So get down here this weekend because there is nothing going on.  So leave the Sloop John b at home and head to the Hoo for this weekend. If not Daddy will take your “T-bird” away.
